Glenfiddich IPA Experiment

I’d like to thank Glenfiddich for giving the Toronto Whisky Society a bottle of Glenfiddich IPA to review. While we were given this bottle, please note that these reviews are my own, we keep 100% editorial power over them. I don’t like beer. I know that sounds like I’m starting negatively, however give me a second. So I like some porters and stouts. Why? Because one’s a cute long… Continue reading Glenfiddich IPA Experiment

Pure Scot Blend

I’d like to thank Bladnoch for giving the Toronto Whisky Society three bottles of Pure Scot Blend to review. While we was given this bottle for free, please note that these reviews are my own, we keep 100% editorial power over them. Bladnoch distillery is one of the few Lowland distilleries left. And recently went through a change. David Prior, an Aussie with a love of Scotch (and waves,… Continue reading Pure Scot Blend

Three Glenfarclas Whiskies (20 105, 30, 40)

Thank you to /u/scotchable, /u/tishpickle, and /u/xile_ for these samples, respectively. Glenfarclas has been written about quite a few times. One of two distilleries that, when I try them, I think “So this was in sherry, right?” However unlike Aberlour, they also work in ex-Bourbon, and as such, I usually lean towards Glenfarclas. However there’s some holes in my reviews of the Glenfarclas range, and I felt that needed… Continue reading Three Glenfarclas Whiskies (20 105, 30, 40)

Macallan 17 & 18 Fine Oak

Macallan 17 Fine Oak, 43% ABV, $170 USD Nose: Pomegranate, wood smoke, floral, Juicy Fruit gum, and a general overall fresh citrus note. Taste: Pineapple, mango, Runts candy (banana & apple flavour), wood smoke, and chocolate. Finish: Medium length, slightly drying. Thoughts: Really nice elegant complexity to this. The nose is very nice, its like smelling the fruit isle at an overpriced market. Probably my … Continue reading Macallan 17 & 18 Fine Oak

Glenburgie SMWS 71.42 “Sinbad preparing for a journey”

Thanks to /u/devoz for sharing a dram of this one. I’ve been told I need to check out this distillery, Glenburgie more. So since I’ve caught up on some other drams, why not it? Stopped by devoz’s place to have a couple drams and hang out, and he ended up saying I needed to try this dram. Like, I NEEDED to. So I agreed to it. Twist… Continue reading Glenburgie SMWS 71.42 “Sinbad preparing for a journey”

Caol Ila 6 2009 Old Malt Cask [Mystery]

Thanks to /u/Ethanized for sending me these mystery samples Mysterious Woods is the first mystery sample (from Ethanized) where I actually start to think about the name and how it relates to the whisky. Was this made using some mysterious casks? Was it some Frankenstein’s monster cask like Amrut Spectrum? Am I reading too much into this and Ethanized just came back from communing with nature? Probably the… Continue reading Caol Ila 6 2009 Old Malt Cask [Mystery]
