Knappogue Castle 12

Thanks to /u/Boyd86 for this sample. What’s more Irish than castles? Well how about the indigenous culture that was there before the castles that was then routed and hurt by them? Awkward. None the less, in the past year I’ve started exploring more beyond the DEW and the Jameson and landed upon Knappogue Castle. Famous for a 50+ year old whiskey that is out, Knappogue Castle… Continue reading Knappogue Castle 12

Knappogue Castle 16

Thanks to /u/toadpooh for this sample. In the year 1966, a very rich American gentleman by the name of Mark E. Andrews bought a decrepit 15th century castle named Knappogue Castle. Normally that’s the beginning of some sort of “Cultural Appropriation is Bad” film, and in the end, the valiant people of the area will rise up against him. However Andrews was not just another rich… Continue reading Knappogue Castle 16

Knappogue Castle 1995

Continuing on with the highly popular, never doubted, and generally treated with respect Irish Whiskey min-binge! So I ordered a bunch of Irish whiskies from Flaviar. They ship to Canada, so that leaves them as my only option. Also it’s not too bad compared to having to hunt it down at bars and restaurants. So today we have Knappogue Castle 1995, or as I call… Continue reading Knappogue Castle 1995

It is time for some Thursday whisky, so sitting down with three of the recent Kilkerran 8 Year Cask Strength release - sherry, port and bourbon cask.
Canada makes some amazing malts, and one of the earliest to make them was @okanaganspirits . They've got some fun expressions in this lineup including a cask strength, port cask and rum cask.
The @kinahanswhiskey KASC project is a pretty interesting Irish single malt. It's aged in a barrel made from a variety of staves: American, French, Portuguese and Hungarian oak and Chestnut, which is a new one! It's also bottled at 45% which is more substantial than many Irish whiskeys. I've seen this brand go on clearance at the @lcbo occasionally, but at $80 this is a decent dessert dram with a fun story.
Where do you go to find your pre-shut down @glendronach ? @whiskytanuki found this one in Japan.
Light body, lightly peated, right from the distillery. Tastes like Friday night.
After watching the game last night, it called for a pour of something enjoyable.
