Michter’s 10 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon, Barrel No.17H1150, 47.2% ABV, $105 USD.
Nose: Really nice nutty note off the top, cherries, caramel, vanilla, cream corn, spearmint, and toasted oak.
Taste: Great oakiness, milk chocolate, cigar, herbal, and again that general nuttiness that is really nice.
Finish: Medium/long, chocolate, spice, and oak.
Thoughts: Love it! This profile is exactly what I like in bourbon. The nutty notes remind me of good batches of Booker’s. I found myself drinking nearly 1/4 of the bottle the night I opened it, just couldn’t put it down! I think the $105 usd price tag is actually good value. I’d even fork over a little more on the secondary. If I’m taking one bourbon with me this summer, this is it!
After my initial score I add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
0-69.5 – Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 – Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
