I received this in a swap with Boyd86 who had received it from a guy who was banned from the network because of some shady swapping practices. He was told it’s Glendronach 15 Revival, but comparing the colour of it to the Revival, it’s clearly not. It’s labelled “GLENRO” so who knows if it’s Glendronach or something like Glenrothes… or could be something different altogether because the source of it was shady. Below are my notes on it, and if you think it sounds like something you’ve had, let me know in comments what you think it is!
Mystery dram “GLENRO” – ??% ABV
- Appearance: very light honey yellow colour. Appears definitely uncoloured.
- Nose: lots of honey, maltiness, caramel, lemony, sweet apples. Smells very standard speyside.. Nothing to particularly set it apart.
- Palate: The flavour is a bit more distinctive with some chocolatey notes, lots of malt, honey, light fruit, slight bitterness but in a good way. Doesn’t seem to be sherried or peated. Not young and not overly high proof, likely 46 max. hard to tell if the spirit is like the glendronach or not. but it’s not bad. I would drink more of this if i knew what it was!
- Finish: moderate, sweet
- Score: 82/100
this is a good average whisky and while I don’t know what it was, it was a nice dram. And I haven’t died yet, so the guy who originally gave it to Boyd86 didn’t poison it 😛
