Highland Park 25 Year Old

Highland Park 25 Year Old, 45.7% ABV, $415 CAD

  • Nose: Apples, apple pie, pie crust, sour-dough bread, honey, leather, banana, peach juice, mild chocolate, white, chocolate, old wood, toffee, vanilla ice cream, Mr. Christie’s Arrow Rout cookies, raisins, waffle cones, and a nice malty note.
  • Taste: Sherry, floral, leather, apple, honey, chocolate and white chocolate again, light cinnamon, golden plums, and underripe pears.
  • Finish: So so good! Long, viscous, slightly drying.
  • Thoughts: One of the most complex Scotches I’ve had. You get a little something new each time you go back to the glass. It’s constantly evolving and changing. Great viscosity; you can chew this forever. Delicate and luxurious. Prices on this bottle have skyrocketed (especially at the LCBO), I paid a good price considering, but I don’t think it’s worth more than what I paid from Alberta.
  • Score: 92 + 0 value point(s) = 92/100

Scores:

After my initial score I will add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.

0-69.5 – Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 – Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
80-84.5 – I recommend trying.
85-87.5 – Definitely try this!
88-92.5 – I recommend buying a bottle blind!
93-95.5 – Stuff you reserve for special pours!
96+ – The meaning of life.
