Toronto Whisky Society’s Whiskies of the Year 2017

2017 was a great year for the Toronto Whisky Society (TWS), between hosting a number of wonderful tastings, visiting distilleries, reviewing whiskies, and of course all the great social events with members. It would be a waste to have all these great whisky lovers and not ask them for their whiskies of the year! Read below to see what whiskies were the highlights for a … Continue reading Toronto Whisky Society’s Whiskies of the Year 2017

Collingwood Town Collection Double Barrelled

We’re going through an interesting time for Canadian whisky. And as a Canadian who reviews whisky, that’s exciting. We’re seeing companies, new and old, trying new things. Making whiskies that aren’t meant for mixing, or being smooth, or targeted at generations that had their general food tastes scarred by war or changed by an ever increasing need to save time for food. Brown-Forman (sorry, had… Continue reading Collingwood Town Collection Double Barrelled

J.P. Wiser’s Custom Blend by Bryan Vanderkruk

Thanks to /u/muaddib99 for this sample. More so than normal, I have to thank him quite a bit. You see, recently as part of the Toronto Whisky Society, he was sent down to Windsor. And not for the usual punitive reasons one goes to Windsor. No, this was part of celebrating the launch of Wiser’s grand opening of the brand centre. Let’s be honest, we… Continue reading BenRiach 22 1994 Peated Ex-Tokaji (Cask 4004)

The distillery was sold in 2015, and the new owner, David Prior, is busy making his mark on the distillery and brand. There’s a new line-up of age stated single malts coming out soon, but the initial new release is a blend called Pure Scot. It contains a … Continue reading Bladnoch Pure Scot Blend Group Review

Group Review: Laphroaig Select

We’re back with another group review! The Laphroaig Select is a new entry level bottling from Laphroaig, and is a combination of malt aged in Oloroso sherry butts, virgin American white oak, PX seasoned hogsheads, Quarter Casks and first fill ex-bourbon casks. Laphroaig made 6 combinations and sent them to some Friends of Laphroaig, allowing them to choose the blend that would go into this new bottling. … Continue reading Group Review: Laphroaig Select
