Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Triple Review – The OBs

Thanks to /u/throzen and /u/scotchable for these drams. This last year I’ve done the unthinkable: I made a 31 part multi review. I ended up learning a lot about my own reviews from writing and drinking that. For one, there is such thing as too much of a good thing. As well, I should split up my multi reviews unless very necessary. Lucky for me, I had already been… Continue reading Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Triple Review – The OBs

Distillery Spotlight: Compass Distillers, Halifax, NS

If you were asked which Canadian province had the most distilleries per capita, Nova Scotia likely wouldn’t be top of mind. However thanks to a government seeing the value in this industry, it has that distinct honour. Nova Scotia has created a tax environment where entrepreneurial spirit lovers can follow their passion and be profitable, while providing attractive prices to consumers. They introduced graduated mark-ups … Continue reading Distillery Spotlight: Compass Distillers, Halifax, NS

Glenburgie SMWS 71.41 “Curious and intriguing”

It’s an odd situation to talk about an up and coming distillery. On the one hand, reviewers are a bunch of vain people who think everyone reads them. I, myself, am amongst this group, and you can thank god for that. Our vanity is fuelled by reviewing whiskies we enjoy to say “Hey, someone else made something and I, someone you trust, reviewed it, so… Continue reading Glenburgie SMWS 71.41 “Curious and intriguing”

Lot 40 vs Lot 40 Cask Strength

Lot No. 40 100% Rye Whisky, 43% ABV, $40 CAD Nose: Caramel, rye spice, oak, floral soap, banana, banana bread, icing sugar. Taste: Creamy toffee, rye spice, brown sugar, cooked banana. Finish: Medium/long length, good viscosity. Thoughts: This is what you want in a rye. Great balance of sweet and spicy. Although strong, the rye kick is nicely rounded so it doesn’t completely overpower the whisky. … Continue reading Lot 40 vs Lot 40 Cask Strength

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PC7 Sin An Doigh Ileach

Thanks to /u/devoz for sharing this one with me. So I’m with Devoz and he thinks “Hey, TOModera has skipped some Port Charlottes. I better remedy that.” And like any playthrough of any Final Fantasy game, he has plenty of remedies at the end of the day. Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PC7 Sin An Doigh Ileach is the 3rd in the PC line, released in the 7th year of… Continue reading Bruichladdich Port Charlotte PC7 Sin An Doigh Ileach

Macallan 15 1992 Murray McDavid

Second night of tasting, second night of taking time away from the pile of Bruichladdich Port Charlotte samples that scream out all at once and then continue screaming because my tongue hasn’t shot laser beams at them yet. What, how do you taste whisky? So I sat down, and /u/devoz offered me a Macallan. Pretty nice on a human level. If I was a autistic child who… Continue reading Macallan 15 1992 Murray McDavid

TWS Northern Border Collection Tasting

We’ve written a few times about Corby’s recently released Northern Border Collection here, and that’s for a couple of reasons: It’s damn good whisky that is a bit of a paradigm shift for Canadian whisky Corby has been really good about reaching out to whisky lovers and groups like ours, letting us taste it and tell its story. So since by now you’ve heard it … Continue reading TWS Northern Border Collection Tasting

Compass Box 25th Anniversary Kensington Wine Market

I’ve written before about Kensington Wine Market, a store in Alberta that has quite a whisky selection and is one of the places that I hit up when I’m out west. I’ve also written quite a bit about Compass Box. Lately I’ve seen a sad drop in quality from their offerings, however I still like what they are doing, what they are pushing for. As… Continue reading Compass Box 25th Anniversary Kensington Wine Market

The Whisky Agency Three Rivers Tokyo Blended Malt

I’ve written a few times of an amazing blended malt. And it would be me aiming low and hitting if I copied that here. Whiskies that were under strength, from the 70s, that were thought to be unsellable. And someone far smarter, more talented than I took those whiskies, and has made many blends after aging them for 10 years with some Glenfarclas in an… Continue reading The Whisky Agency Three Rivers Tokyo Blended Malt
