Laphroaig Caideas – Madeira Cask 2016, 51.6% ABV, $100 CAD
- Nose: Peat right up front but not as strong as the 10 or 1/4 Cask, damp wood, brine, dry strawberries, and apricot.
- Taste: Earthy and musty peat smoke, old oak, strawberries, tobacco, with a faint floral note.
- Finish: Medium/long, highlighted by strawberries, peat and wood.
- Thoughts: I love the fruity/strawberry element to this. I think it compliments the balance of classic smoke/brine peat notes. Not as big of a peat-punch like you get with other Laphroaig’s, but still enough to satisfy any peat lover.
- Score: 87.5 + 1 value point(s) = 88.5/100
Scores:
After my initial score I will add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
