Bunnahabhain Instagram Live Tasting – June 2021

In summer 2021, we had an event fall through fairly last minute, but fortunately, The Whisky Explorer came to the rescue! Mike Brisebois used to be the brand ambassador for the Distell Group of scotch brands (Bunnahabhain, Ledaig, Tobermory, Deanston, Black Bottle) before branching out on his own endeavour which includes: Needless to say, we’re big fan’s of Mike’s and had done some events with … Continue reading Bunnahabhain Instagram Live Tasting – June 2021

Oddballs 2021

While Covid changed a lot of things, one thing it didn’t change was our annual Oddballs tradition! in 2021, we had a great Oddballs line-up tasted over Zoom including the following drams, all of which were single cask and cask strength Opinions and favourites were mixed, but everyone agreed there were some massive surprises in the line-up, with the speyside’s sulphury palate being the most … Continue reading Oddballs 2021

What are you drinking January 25th?

What are you drinking January 25th? Some readers may think that this is a strange question. Why this date you may ask? Those who celebrate January 25th annually with cock-a-leekie soup, neeps, tatties and haggis know that January 25th is Robbie Burns Day. Many may be surprised to learn that they have already raised a glass, indirectly, to Robbie Burns when they rang in the … Continue reading What are you drinking January 25th?

Bunnahabhain Warehouse 9 Tasting

It’s now Day 2 of my Islay expedition and this one will be quite a more arduous journey then any other distillery tour I’ve experienced here on Islay. Not because of the distillery experience itself but because of it’s extremely remote location being the northernmost distillery on Islay. Since my dad and I didn’t have a car to use on Islay and the bus schedule … Continue reading Bunnahabhain Warehouse 9 Tasting

Caol Ila 12 2006 North Star

Everything about Caol Ila, on paper, without trying their whisky spells disaster. It’s massive amounts of whisky pumped out industrially owned by a large company. And yet… dammit if I don’t really enjoy their whisky. So I guess I gotta stop judging books by covers and all that. Oh, how my life would be different. So today I’m reviewing?Caol Ila 12 2006 North Star, a… Continue reading Caol Ila 12 2006 North Star

Laphroaig 20 1996 Adelphi

Thanks to?/u/xile_?for pouring me this dram. How do you end an epic tasting that includes good steak, beef bacon, sausages, and staring into the abyss? Why with a Laphroaig of course! Laphroaig 20 1996 Adelphi?is to round out the tasting. And since it’s from Adelphi, I’m lucky that they listed the alcohol the information is so sparse. So let’s just get to it, shall we?… Continue reading Laphroaig 20 1996 Adelphi

Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair

Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair?is a new NAS release from Bunnahabhain. It’s sherried, using both first fill and second fill sherry casks. I obtained this sample from the brand ambassador who recently ran a tasting for the Toronto Whisky Society. Why this? According to some press, it’s a partial replacement for the 12 year. Guess they’re having sourcing issues and trying to find out solutions. I say we… Continue reading Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair

Ardbeg – Ar10 – Elements of Islay

Thanks to both /u/devoz and /u/distillation for this sample. So we just finished a Lagavulin independent bottled double cask. What can beat that? I am a Lagavulin fanboy, after all. Oh, yeah, I’m also an Ardbeg fanboy. And a huge obvious stereotype whisky drinker. Thus we have?Ardbeg – Ar10 – Elements of Islay?up next, yet another of the chemistry themed independent bottled single & double casks that all come… Continue reading Ardbeg – Ar10 – Elements of Islay
