High West Rendezvous Rye Boulevardier Finish

Thanks to /u/Saba007 for sharing this one with us. I have a bit of a confession. No, I am not the most recent person to be taken down in the Hollywood scandals. I’m not close enough to being famous enough. Oh, and I’m also not a creep. I know that comes as a surprise, however my crass, edgy jokes are just that: Jokes. It can be hard… Continue reading High West Rendezvous Rye Boulevardier Finish

A Weekend at Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery & Distillery

For those of you who know me in person, you’ll know that I am a self-proclaimed Padawan whisky nerd (Star Wars reference). That is why I was absolutely thrilled when Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery invited me to visit their distillery and vineyard at Niagara-on-the-Lake. Wayne Gretzky Estates is an award winning winery and distillery owned by Peller Estate and Canadian legend Wayne Gretzky. Their most … Continue reading A Weekend at Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery & Distillery

Balblair 1999 Sherry Cask The Whisky Exchange Single Cask

Thanks to /u/Saba007 for sharing this one with us. So I show up to this tasting. Don’t know what will be served. Why? Because I’ve been sick for weeks and not able to concentrate on anything other than school. How have I kept posting? I’m well organized. And I review a lot normally. Heck, by the time these words are read, I could be sick again. The… Continue reading Balblair 1999 Sherry Cask The Whisky Exchange Single Cask

Glenfarclas 35 1981 Port Cask Matured IV

When one thinks of a cat, they think of it being a calm animal that sleeps. However when someone trains a cat, that’s a surprise. It’s different. Thus we take note. When one thinks of Glenfarclas, one thinks of sherry casks. Among Glenfarclas, Aberlour, and Macallan, Sherry screams from the rooftop. Not literally, otherwise drinking it would be inhuman and frightening. So when something is… Continue reading Glenfarclas 35 1981 Port Cask Matured IV

Collingwood Town Collection Double Barrelled

We’re going through an interesting time for Canadian whisky. And as a Canadian who reviews whisky, that’s exciting. We’re seeing companies, new and old, trying new things. Making whiskies that aren’t meant for mixing, or being smooth, or targeted at generations that had their general food tastes scarred by war or changed by an ever increasing need to save time for food. Brown-Forman (sorry, had… Continue reading Collingwood Town Collection Double Barrelled

The Bruichladdich Still Series

Thanks to /u/Whiskyjig and /u/xile_ for the samples. Hi all, back again with a series that’s not really around anymore. Back when I wasn’t an experienced amateur and was more of a completely ignorant whisky amateur, I happened in Scotland. And like most people who aren’t reviewing constantly, I didn’t realize that those Golden, Red, and super Black bottles of Bruichladdich were anything special. Yeah, I’m kinda dim. But… Continue reading The Bruichladdich Still Series

Royal Brackla 16

Thanks to /u/cpfselfbuilt for this sample. Michael Jackson once said that Royal Brackla was in Speyside. Most other reviewers placed it in the Highlands though, making our future discussions of whisky. I’ve never reviewed a Royal Brackla, unlike the former King of Reviewers. I seem to have missed this Bacardi owned whisky, and should fix that. The reason they are royal? In 1835 (an okay year, everyone… Continue reading Royal Brackla 16

Glenfarclas 17

Glenfarclas 17, 43% ABV, $130 CAD Nose: Red plums, oak, fresh floral, citrus, lemon peel, Smuckers strawberry jam. Taste: Plums, bitter chocolate, chocolate orange, raisins, malt, coffee, and a slight spicyness. Finish: Medium, good viscosity, coffee and chocolate notes linger. Thoughts: It’s bold and fresh at the same time, juicy, with good complexity. Other than the 25 year, this is my favorite expression from the … Continue reading Glenfarclas 17

Distillery Spotlight: Halifax Distilling Company, Halifax, NS

Halifax has become a hotbed for breweries, and now also has two distilleries operating in the city. We had a chance to visit both of them, and the write-up of the brand new Compass Distillers was previously posted here. The Halifax Distilling Company is the other and actually finds its roots on Prince Edward Island as the Prince Edward Distillery started by Julie Shore, a … Continue reading Distillery Spotlight: Halifax Distilling Company, Halifax, NS
