Earlier this month I posted a review of a 23yr Laphroaig from SMWS, which had been my 199th scotch review on Reddit. Today I’m posting the review I wrote for my 200th: Laphroaig 25 CS 2011, which clocks in at 48.6% ABV, finished in oloroso casks. I received this sample from Devoz.
Laphroaig 25 Cask Strength 2011 – 48.6% ABV
- Appearance: same light uncoloured yellow. Don’t see much colour influence from the sherry finish.
- Nose: quite salty, light smoke, sweet peat, lots of iodine. Smoked meat, spicy pepper. Oak.
- Palate: tons of smoke and ash. Much moreso than the 23. hotter too despite lower ABV. Sweet fruit, banana, briney sea water, Schwartz’ Montreal smoked meat poutine. Bog water. The Oloroso doesn’t show up a ton, but does add a bit of depth here. Leathery oak. fantastic.
- Finish: long, sweet, smoky
- Score: 93/100
this was amazing. Fantastic depth and breadth of flavour. Definitely one of if not the best from Laphroaig I’ve had.

Wow, what a dram! Sounds like you’re having an amazing ‘Froaig Friday! 🙂
