Thanksgiving Review: Wild Turkey 101

I picked this up at the DutyFreeAmerica at the Buffalo border. figured what better whisky review to post for thanksgiving than a Turkey! Wild Turkey 101 – 50.5% Appearance: orange and gold. Nicely coats the glass. I’m always amazed at the colour you get in bourbon without added colouring… must be the virgin oak. Nose: lots of caramel and vanilla, honey and oak. A mellow … Continue reading Thanksgiving Review: Wild Turkey 101

Review: Aberlour 12 Double Cask

bought this one in 2013 after reading glowing reviews of the 12yr NCF edition, seeing the LCBO price and thinking whoa! what a deal! turns out this is the double cask matured, which is slightly different. Aberlour 12 Double Cask matured: 43% ABV Appearance: reddish gold colour. probably darkest of the bottles in my collection. Nose: sweet sherry, some fruit… can’t pick it out. not … Continue reading Review: Aberlour 12 Double Cask

saw this at the LCBO on sale back in 2013 after only having bought blends. This was early in my scotch journey and only my second review. Reviews: Nikka Taketsuru 12 and 21

Nikka Taketsuru 12 Appearance: 1.2, Chestnut Nose: Lots of honey and malt, menthol, empire apples, a floral note that almost comes across like fresh dryer sheets. The profile is somewhat shallow in depth. Taste: White fruits and moderate wood spice on the arrival, a slight tartness, honey, under ripe banana. Fairly one dimensional really. Finish: Quite short and light, malty honey, white pepper. I almost get … Continue reading Reviews: Nikka Taketsuru 12 and 21

Wiser’s Last Barrels – a Review

If you’re part of the Reddit whisky network, you’d be aware that November’s Community review was Wiser’s Last Barrels. I’ve had this sample for a while, having gotten it in a swap with /u/lecheconcarnie from reddit a couple months ago, but had neglected to get around to reviewing it. Then I realized the community review was going to be finalized soon and hadn’t yet contributed my … Continue reading Wiser’s Last Barrels – a Review

Review: Suntory Toki

Appearance: 0.2, Pale Straw Nose: Nice white fruit bouquet, white grapes, apple, peach, pear, lychee. Quite floral as well. Taste: Oaky dryness hit the sides of the tongue on the arrival, the floral and fruity elements from the nose continue into the taste. I get lychee, apple, pear, honeysuckle, vanilla, heather, honey. Really bursting with layers of fruitiness, backed up by a nice floral accent. Finish: … Continue reading Review: Suntory Toki

Review: Amrut Intermediate Sherry & Amrut Spectrum

Amrut Intermediate Sherry Appearance: 1.5, Auburn Nose: Typical Amrut grainy creaminess up front, lemon custard with a touch of zest, some red stone fruits. The sherry is certainly present, but is not dominating the nose. Taste: Great mouth feel, creamy and thick, the Amrut distillery character is at the forefront, lovely grainy creaminess, some tart red fruit, cranberries, some raspberry, touch of lime, some white pepper … Continue reading Review: Amrut Intermediate Sherry & Amrut Spectrum

Lot No. 40 Cask Strength – Review

recently, Devoz visited the Hiram Walker/Corby/Pernod Ricard/Wiser’s facility (that’s a lot of names and I’m honestly not sure which one is correct!) in Windsor ,Ontario and got a private tour of the operations. He also was very kindly given a personalized 200ml Lot No. 40 Cask Strength edition bottle to his own enjoyment, and generously put samples out to members of the Toronto Whisky Society … Continue reading Lot No. 40 Cask Strength – Review
